Cairo Today wanted to expand their brand by offering a dedicated digital bookstore. The goal was to create a seamless e-commerce experience where users could browse, purchase, and instantly read digital books without leaving the platform.
Intellectual Property Protection: The biggest risk was piracy. We needed a way to let users read purchased books without allowing them to easily download and distribute the raw PDF files.
Catalog Management: Organizing hundreds of titles by genre, author, and popularity in a way that felt like browsing a physical bookstore, not a spreadsheet.
Visual Strategy: We used a “Cover-First” design. The UI mimics a physical bookshelf, with high-resolution book covers taking center stage. The checkout process is minimalist to reduce cart abandonment.
UX Focus: We implemented “Instant Access.” As soon as a payment is confirmed, the user is redirected to a custom reader interface, eliminating the friction of waiting for email downloads.
Tech Stack: WordPress, WooCommerce, Custom PDF Viewer Integration.
Technical Solutions:
Secure Browser-Based Reader: We integrated a custom PDF viewer that renders the book pages as images in the browser. This prevents direct file downloads, securing the authors’ rights.
Dynamic Filtering: Built an AJAX-powered filter allowing users to sort by “Latest,” “Bestsellers,” and “Categories” without reloading the page, keeping the experience snappy.
Secure, encrypted digital reading experience.
Author profile pages linking to all their works.
One-click purchasing for registered users.
Preview functionality (read the first 10 pages for free).
A fully functional digital marketplace that protects revenue streams while offering readers instant gratification.
